Between eggs and walls

Between eggs and walls
Subverting car-buying practices?

“If there is a hard, high wall and an egg that breaks against it, no matter how right the wall or how wrong the egg, I will stand on the side of the egg. Why? Because each of us is an egg, a unique soul enclosed in a fragile egg. Each of us is confronting a high wall. The high wall is the system which forces us to do the things we would not ordinarily see fit to do as individuals . . . We are all human beings, individuals, fragile eggs. We have no hope against the wall: it's too high, too dark, too cold. To fight the wall, we must join our souls together for warmth, strength. We must not let the system control us -- create who we are. It is we who created the system. (Jerusalem Prize acceptance speech, JERUSALEM POST, Feb. 15, 2009)”

I totally agree with the above quote by Haruki Murakami.

As consumers, car owners and car users, we certainly have the right to know, the right to choose and the right to say no to unreasonable things.

Hong Kong Motor Inspection (HKMI) is committed to protecting the right of consumers. We will always stand on the side of eggs. In the face of the tall and tough wall, we will stand firm to demand for transparency and justice. While car dealers have their own rules, reasonable or not, consumers are also entitled to putting forth our expectations. “Inspection before deposit”: this is how we strive for fairness in the trade.

The wall might question why there should be changes. The system has been there for long after all, hasn’t it? Some might think that HKMI is like throwing eggs to the wall, that our actions are bound to be futile.

Still, we utterly believe that we are doing what is right by protecting for the rights of consumers.
The wall has no soul but eggs do. We gather and convince, then change the system.
Have we subverted a tradition? It is an overstatement. We are merely advocating for the right path to take.

We stand by the side of the eggs.
